The natural habitat of the Chimpanzee, or Pan troglodytes, is western and west central Africa.  There are three subspecies - Eastern (P. t. schweinfurthii), Central (P. t. troglodytes), and Western (P. t. verus). Each subspecies lives in a different part of the contentment separated by geographical barriers with very little intermixing.

It is our hope to collect at least one sample from each the the three subspecies's.  For more information on Chimpanzees, see the Chimpanzee Links section below.

Y-DNA Test Results

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the Chimpanzee participants.  Click on the Kit # to view more information about the individual  Newer results have a purple block to the left of the kit number. Normally, the Modal Hyplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of "original" common Chimpanzee ancestor looked like. However, since the time frame involved is so great and the samples are so few, it only represents what our Chimpanzee participant's typical Hyplotype appears to be.  Red cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.
